Ubbink Filtrapure Gravity Filters

The Ubbink Filtrapure is an ideal gravity filter for ponds requiring a filtered flow rate of up to 3000 L/H. It uses both biological and mechanical filtration to remove sediment, organic material and toxicity from your pond.

Ponds can be effected by various factors such as unconsumed fish food, decomposing vegetation and fish waste. If these pollutants are allowed to accumulate, in time they will become harmful to your fish. The use of a biological filter will remove these toxins (nitrate, ammonia) and provide good quality water with the additional benefit of reducing algae growth.

There are two types of filtration action in every bio-filter.

First is mechanical filtration:
At the top of each filter is a foam, these foam physically strain the water removing particles of fish waste and debris from the water.

The second type of filtration is biological:

Below the foam set are bio-media called Flow cor (or Bio balls). The purpose of this media is to allow helpful bacteria to grow on it's surface. The bacteria absorbs the pollutants within the pond water and neutralize ammonia and nitrite deposits then recycles the pollutants to nitrate which is a natural plant food.

Aussie's Observations about Filtrapure Gravity Filters

Budget • Good • Better • Best • Superior

Any pond without a waterfall or if with a waterfall has a place at the top to hide the box.

Great value for money. It has many of the features of more expensive filters including a high outlet so half the filter can be buried if needed.

No in-built UVC. Can be used with an external UVC if your pond requires one, but not all do.

Filter selection

To choose the ideal filter for any pond you must first know the correct flow through the filter to maintain ideal water quality for your pond. (Please remember that the pond size alone does not determine the filter or pump size without first taking into account the many environmental and physical factors)

3 ways to get help to establish flow

  1. Fill in one of our e-mail help forms and let us do all the calculations for you

  2. Give us a call 1800 607 388 for expert advice

  3. Do it yourself and use our quick reference flow calculator for rough estimate

  • Step one: Establish the required flow through the filter keeping in mind waterfall** height if any, or long hose**

  • Step Two: Choose a filter from the chart below (Example if your pond requires a flow through the filter of 2,500 litres per hour, the Bio-Master 6000 would give the best result)

  • Step Three: Choose a pump, they are listed below in order of quality and suitability

Recommended flow through the filter - litres per hour

  2000 4000 7000
Minimum Flow 700 1200 1500
Ideal Flow 1000 1600 2500
Maximum Flow 1500 2200 3000

**Special note, if using a waterfall or a long hose between pump and filter the pump will need to be larger to allow for the reduced flow caused by the head (pumping height, and/or hose length) If in doubt Fill in one of our e-mail help forms and let us do all the calculations for you.
##This pump is a little too strong, unless a waterfall over 1m is in place. However, you can never have too much pond flow, so, by releasing water back into the pond through a "Tee" and flow valve added circulation is provided for the pond.
